The contractor for this project is working closely with the N.C. Department of Transportation to limit the effects of construction on traffic in the area. One way the contractor did that was by allowing traffic to continue flowing on the I-85 bridge over the Yadkin River while crews built the two new bridges that are replacing it. At no time did motorists have to take a detour route to cross the river.

The department has permanently closed part of Hackett Street in Rowan County. Click here for details on alternative ways to cross I-85.

NCDOT is using many tools to help motorists stay informed about changes in traffic patterns. It will post alerts on its Traveler Information Management System, which citizens can access 24 hours a day on the NCDOT Website. The department will also work closely with the media and utilize social media tools such as Twitter to help drivers know before they go.
